Book Review: The Power of Personal Storytelling

by Jack Maguire

Jack Maguire, in his book The Power of Personal Storytelling, tells us everything we need to know to become storytellers in our lives, to develop skills, set up strategies and expand our awareness of our lives and develop our innate creativity for generating stories. But this book is so much more. Maguire encourages us to see our lives from the larger perspective of story, both in hindsight and while they are happening. He shows how sharing our stories breaks down the walls that divide us, awakening us to our common ground as community and as humans. This book is a natural sequel to Campbell’s The Power of Myth, opening the doorway to living into our own mythology.

Review by Rev. Ruth Barnharta staff minister at Center for Spiritual Living, Santa Rosa.
